These are the waters of Beaver Lake Arkansas
When my family made their home in Enid, Oklahoma, Beaver Lake in Rogers, Arkansas was one of our favorite vacation lakes. It was a very long 7-hour drive … with three kids, a bird dog, camping gear and our bass boat in tow … this explains how much we enjoyed our vacations here.
It was certainly a different location then. Rogers was only about 10,000 people and the towns that make up NW Arkansas were separated by expanses undeveloped land. Wal-Mart was just a department store … not the Giant Supercenters of today.
The highway coming into Horseshoe Bend was lined on both sides by very tall Pine and Oak trees that nearly touched each other in the center. This road was very narrow, with no shoulder. In the fall you drove through a snowstorm of leaves. In the winter, you slid off the road into Chrome Holler! There was no shoulder what so ever.
